Vivreau Team leads a Shoreline Cleanup

By Vivreau Advanced Water Systems

Last week, the Vivreau HQ office led a Shoreline cleanup in downtown Vancouver’s Crab Park. The cleanup was part of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, an initiative through Ocean Wise and also WWF (World Wildlife Foundation). Since 1994, there have been 21,300 cleanups that have collected more than 1.3 million kg of trash across Canada’s shorelines, and we were very proud to have been a small part of that.

Vivreau’s vision is all about helping companies make better water choices, and central to this is helping to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles. That is why Vivreau has collaborated with Ocean Wise by becoming a core partner of the Plastic Wise initiative. Together, Vivreau and Ocean Wise support each other in positive storytelling around solutions to ocean plastic pollution from water and other beverage bottles.

We were surprised at how much garbage we picked up in a short amount of time, in a relatively clean-looking, well maintained park. In under an hour we filled five large buckets with various items ranging from cigarette butts (almost 1000 total!), to washed up clothing and seemingly everything in between.

Cleaning up our shorelines goes a long way towards improving our Marine habitats and helping wildlife. If you see a marine mammal that you believe is in distress in British Columbia, call the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre (another Ocean Wise initiative) at 604.258.SEAL.
