What is the formula for a successful wellness program? Are they effective? Are they time wasters? We sat down with corporate wellness program facilitator, Mandy King, to find out.

As a Holistic Nutritionist, and founder of the health and wellness company HEAL (Healthy Eating & Living), King has seen how companies can use wellness programs to create positive, long term results for their employees and businesses.

“Before becoming a holistic nutritionist, I was working in the corporate world for a Fortune 500 company, and thought that the fatigue and fogginess I was feeling was just part of working in a high pressure environment” she says.

After exploring different options, she turned her attention to her diet, and just by making little shifts in what she was eating and her own self-care, she began noticing a positive change.

“I noticed that many of the problems I was experiencing originally, such as fatigue, bloating, and trouble concentrating were significantly improved, or had become non-issues. I was happier to come to work, and a more engaged employee.”

For her part, King has created a comprehensive, turn-key approach to introduce wellness programs to HEAL’s corporate clients. Advocating proper hydration and nutrition in the workplace became the key cornerstones to a multi-tiered approach to corporate wellness programs.

“We begin with a Lunch and Learn to introduce a health and wellness program,” King explains. “From there, companies can choose to have us come in for quarterly sessions on different wellness topics, or they can partake in an eight week Wellness challenge.”

King also consults companies on how to set up a wellness station and programs that they can promote to their employees for the long-term, focusing on three key aspects:

“Wellness programs, when executed with a proper goal in mind, can absolutely be effective tools to increase productivity, team building, and overall health and job satisfaction within a company of any size,” explains King. “The most important key for success is taking the time to understand the unique needs of the employees themselves, and tailoring a program that is sustainable for long-term success.”
